Do not use them if you or a family member has ever had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), or if you have had a serious allergic reaction to either medicine.

Compounded prescriptions are dispensed and shipped by a licensed partner pharmacy, generally within 5 to 7 business days of the prescription reaching the pharmacy. Branded medication is dispensed under the manufacturer’s self-pay program at the price that program publishes.

What follow-up looks at
- Response: how you are responding to treatment
- Tolerability: side effects you notice, and whether they are manageable
- Monitoring: any testing the physician requires
- The physician decides whether to continue, adjust, pause or stop
Tell the physician first
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or MEN 2
- Past pancreatitis, gallbladder disease or kidney problems
- Diabetes medicines such as insulin or a sulfonylurea, or diabetic eye disease
- Birth control pills, which tirzepatide can make less effective
- Depression or thoughts of self-harm
- Any planned surgery or sedation
- If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
Possible side effects
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, especially as the dose rises
- Vomiting or diarrhea that leads to dehydration, which can affect the kidneys
- Severe stomach pain that will not go away: seek care right away
- Signs of low blood sugar if you also take diabetes medicines
- Call 911 for trouble breathing or swelling of the face or throat
- Report anything else unexpected to the physician the same day
